10780.1 1 CITY OF SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO1 RESOLUTION NO. 2026- ____2 INTRODUCED BY:3 4 Councilor Elizabeth Barrett5 Mayor Michael Garcia6 Councilor Paul Bustamante7 Councilor Pilar Faulkner8 9 A RESOLUTION10 AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2025-31 TO UPDATE THE IMMIGRATION11 COMMITTEE’S RULES AND PROCEDURES.12 WHEREAS, on January 13, 1999, the Governing Body adopted Resolution No. 1999-613 declaring a policy of non-discrimination on the basis of a person’s national origin and appointing14 an immigration taskforce; and15 WHEREAS, on January 16, 2002, the Governing Body adopted Resolution No. 2002-3,16 which renamed the Immigration Taskforce the “Immigration Committee”; and17 WHEREAS, on October 9, 2002, the Governing Body adopted Resolution No. 2002-58,18 which decreased the number of members on the Immigration Committee from fifteen to nine19 members; and20 WHEREAS, on October 8, 2014, the Governing Body adopted Resolution No. 2014-82,21 declaring its “continuous” support for immigrant issues in Santa Fe, the state of New Mexico, and22 throughout the United States; and23 WHEREAS, on April 30, 2025, the Governing Body adopted Resolution No. 2025-3124 updating the Immigration Committee’s rules and procedures in various ways; and25 10780.1 2 WHEREAS, the Governing Body wishes to amend Sections 4 and 6 the Committee’s rules1 and procedures as follows:2 Section 4. MEMBERSHIP AND OFFICERS: The committee shall consist of a3 Governing Body member, who shall serve as a non-voting member and chair, and nine4 representatives residing in the county of Santa Fe and selected from the following areas:5 human rights, social services, business community, health care, labor organizations,6 religious community, youth services providers, women’s advocacy groups, educators,7 and legal services. The members shall be appointed by the mayor with the consent of the8 governing body. The [mayor] committee shall appoint the [chairperson and the9 committee shall designate the] vice-chairperson.10 Section 6. STAFF LIAISON(S): The City Manager shall designate one or more City11 staff members including but not limited to one representative from the Santa Fe Police Department,12 and any other staff as deemed [as] appropriate, serve as liaisons to the committee.13 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE14 CITY OF SANTA FE that the Immigration Committee’s rules and procedures, last updated in15 Resolution No. 2025-31, shall be amended as follows:16 Section 4.
