The past resolutions noted in this legislation are Resolution Nos. 1985-129, 1999-06, 2014-82, and 2017-19. Each of these resolutions establishes the City’s history of upholding the public policy position of welcoming and supporting immigrant communities. In addition to this broad policy stance, Resolution Nos. 1985-129, 1999-06, and 2017-19 specify ways the City operationalizes non-discrimination and inclusive policies toward Santa Fe’s residents. This includes Resolution No. 1985-129’s declaration that “no municipal resources will be used to identify or apprehend any non-citizen resident on the sole basis of immigration status, unless otherwise lawfully required to do so” and Resolution No. 1999-06’s position that “no municipal resources will be used to identify or apprehend any non-citizen resident on the sole basis of immigration status, unless otherwise lawfully required to do so.” Further, the resolution encourages all residents to use the public safety resources of law enforcement and for emergency medical care. Last, the resolution asks residents to fact check information regarding federal immigration agents in Santa Fe before sharing broadly in order to prevent the spread of misinformation in Santa Fe’s Community. Departments Affected: All City departments should be enforcing the above-named resolutions. Consequences of Not Enacting Legislation: If this legislation is not adopted, the Governing body will miss an opportunity to affirm its commitment to the above-named resolutions .
